RADOV Kick-off Meeting

RADOV held its kick-off meeting in the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Warsaw, Poland on the 22-23 of September 2022. 16 participants from 5 countries representing all the institutions and companies participating in RADOV and all work packages (WPs) and tasks met to discuss the four year’s work with the focus on the plans for the coming year. The six WPs including 19 tasks were presented and discussed and the Steering Committee (SC) meeting was held.
The kick-off-meeting (KoM), as the first consortium meeting of RADOV aims to meet face to face all of the partners, allowing to have deep discussions about the different activities to be implemented and understand the project background, objectives and expected results.
The meeting was structured as a 2-days event:
- Day 1 was a plenary session with an overview of the whole project structure, the consortium agreement and coordination procedures and the introduction of different partners of the consortium.
- Day 2 was focussed on presentations of the companies involved in RADOV as Partners and Affiliated Entities. Moreover, financial issues and legal implications of RADOV project were also presented. Visit to the INCT Sterilization Plant was organized after plenary session. Steering Committee meeting closed the second day of the KoM.
After all participant introduction coordinator of the project Dr Dagmara Chmielewska-Śmietanko introduced RADOV starting from the history how the consortium was formed. Then consortium partners were presented. The presentation also outlined project pillars as novelty, multidisciplinarity, innovation and green economy and gave information how project activities will contribute all these key areas. Then overall project objectives:
- development of the large-scale electron beam irradiation processes that use eggshell membranes, egg white, or selected isolated egg proteins to produce bioactive peptides and their mixtures,
- development of the prototypes of new products containing bioactive peptides: hydrogel wound dressings and active food packaging films, both obtained with the application of ionizing radiation,
- identification of egg-peptide structure-bioactivity relationships that can contribute to the development of peptides with well documented bioactivity produced by radiation-induced fragmentation of proteins were presented.
Dr Cristina Fernández-Ramos, European Commission (EC) project officer (PO) responsible for RADOV project outlined the Euratom research and training programme, its financial aspects and the results of the evaluation of the proposals submitted to the call.
Next works planned in different WPs and tasks were presented by their leaders. The first day of the KoM was closed with the discussion on further steps and actions in the RADOV project was held after all WP presentations.
The second day of the KoM was started from the short introduction to the collaboration with industry and role of industrial partners. Next, representatives of the companies were invited to present the scope of the activity and products offered by each of them. The meeting was closed with the visit to the INCT sterilization plant.
